August 12, 2008 marked a new lease of life for Tripoli downtown Boy Scouts and Girl Guides building. The building that was first built around 1880 underwent an 18-month structural restoration sponsored by Shell Exploration and Production Libya GmbH.

The restoration comes as part of a Memorandum of Understanding signed between NOC and Shell  in March 2007 and is an element of Shell Libya’s Social Programme in the country.

Along with the restoration of the building, the Memorandum of Understanding covers a number of activities aimed towards raising awareness in Road Safety, Health and HIV prevention throughout Libya.

Mr. Bukhari Hoda Secretary-General of the Boy Scouts and Girl Guides of Libya, and Mr. Mark Hope, Country Chairman of Shell Exploration and Production GmbH cut the ribbon and officially opened the building to continue hosting the Boy Scouts and Girl Guides activities in Tripoli.

Mr. Radwan Gariani, Sustainable Development Manager of the National Oil Corporation, and Mr. Bart Von Barthfeld the Dutch Ambassador, attended the inauguration along with a number of Libyan and foreign dignitaries.  Mr Mark Hope indicated, “Shell is proud to be in partnership with the Boy Scouts and Girl Guides of Libya and is delighted to have sponsored the renovation of this historic and magnificent building
